Sweet potatoes are high in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, magnesium,  potassium; sweet potatoes also contain a good amount of Vitamin E, calcium and folate.

These wonderful vegetables are a great first baby foods for baby as they are packed full of nutrients, highly palatable and due to their fiber content, help digestive tract and bowel health.We always recommend that you consult with your baby’s pediatrician on introducing solid foods as generalities may not apply to your infant. 

How to select them and how to store them for your baby

When selecting sweet potatoes for homemade baby food, make sure to select the ones that are firm and no have any cracks, bruises and are without brown or soft spots. Can be kept up to 10 days in a cool, dark and dry area that is well ventilated; best kept loose (not in plastic bag). They do not need refrigerating. Once cooked, they can kept in the fridge for 2-3 days. Sweet potatoes also freeze well.

Best way to cook them for your baby

The best way to cook sweet potatoes is to bake them, as this way they retain most of the nutrients while they bring out their natural sweetness and flavour.
